NEIGHBORHOODS

Richmond Areas - Formal and Informal

Sellers in the Greater Richmond Metro area may choose to emphasize the names of larger areas rather than focus on the names of specific neighborhoods in Richmond or the surrounding counties.  Buyers might be interested in several neighborhoods in a general area and therefore search using more general search criteria that capture larger communities containing many neighborhoods.

Zip codes are one formal way to define less specific areas but there are also two other ways larger areas may be described: MLS real estate zones and colloquial names used by local residents.  All of these are larger areas are made up of many neighborhoods not only in the City of Richmond but the surrounding counties as well.

MLS Real Estate Areas

The Richmond MLS real estate zones map is a formal numerical map overlay that identifies 25 areas (or zones) within the Greater Richmond Metro area. Each zone is assigned a number between 10 and 66. There may be more than one MLS real estate zone in a city or county but an MLS zone will not include more than one city or county. In other words, an MLS zone is confined to one city or county and will not overlap the boundaries of adjacent counties.

Colloquial Areas

Northside, Southside, Downtown, Near West End, West End and East End are the most commonly used. Keep in mind that these are informal areas so the actual neighborhoods included in each may vary slightly depending on who you talk to.
